Located 25 miles north of Durango, Purgatory Ski Resort offers a wide range of skiing for beginners to the most advanced riders. Take in the incredible views as you relax down wide-open runs or push yourself on challenging steeps and tree runs. Purgatory is the kind of resort where you can take a beginner lesson in the morning and an off-piste tour in the afternoon — it has it all.
The Terrain
With more than 1,600 acres of skiable terrain across 105+ trails, Purgatory has expanded steadily over the years. The resort is known for long, scenic runs through aspen and pine, big bowls for intermediate riders, and a real expert zone for those who want to chase steeper lines. Snowboarders will find plenty of groomers plus a terrain park.
Mountain Stats
Base elevation 8,793 ft. Summit 10,822 ft. Average snowfall 260+ inches. The position in the San Juans means Purgatory often gets some of the lightest, driest snow in Colorado — and 300+ days of sunshine a year means a lot of bluebird powder days.
Beyond Skiing
Summer at Purgatory is its own season. Mountain biking, the Inferno Mountain Coaster, scenic chairlift rides, ziplines, and an alpine slide give the family plenty to do once the snow melts. The resort has become a true four-season destination 45 minutes from downtown Durango.
